While we love listening to James Corden sing in the car, his next stage will be just a little bit bigger: The talk show star will host the 2017 Grammy Awards.
“I am truly honored to be hosting the Grammys next year,” Corden said in a statement. “It’s the biggest most prestigious award show in music, and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of such an incredible night.”
Corden, who turned his Carpool Karaoke segment from The Late Late Show into a viral sensation, was tapped as the perfect emcee for the 59th annual Grammy Awards.
Recording Academy president and CEO Neil Portnow noted: “Thanks to Carpool Karaoke, we’ve all been on some incredible rides with James, and The Recording Academy couldn’t be more excited to welcome his passion and enthusiasm for music, both as an entertainer and a fan … James Corden is a commanding, dynamic showman who, we believe, is perfect to host the Grammy Awards.”
While this is his first time helming the awards show, the funnyman has plenty of experience under his belt between his gig at The Late Late Show and his turn as host of the Tonys in 2016. Corden, a Tony winner himself, slayed his hosting duties by singing, dancing, and joking his way through the night.

Justin Bieber!—he surely has plenty of insider information to create an entertaining opening. Maybe Jennifer Lopez will even give her “boo boo,” Leonardo DiCaprio, a ring on the Grammy stage.

Plus, he’s almost guaranteed to “Carpool Karaoke” his way to the show, giving us another opportunity to see a singer in the hot seat. We’re hoping that Rihanna or even Queen Bey herself will take a turn in Corden’s car before the big night.
Tune in for what’s sure to be a wild ride when the 59th annual Grammy Awards air live on CBS on Feb. 12, 2017.
